Frequently Asked Questions About Membership
Why does Revive have members?
At Revive, we see the church as a body—a community where every person has a unique role and purpose. Just as the Bible describes in 1 Corinthians 12:12, “For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ.” We each bring something valuable to the table, working together under Jesus, the head of the church, to make an impact and grow in faith.
Membership is also part of how we ensure shared accountability and leadership within our church. Revive is congregationally governed, which means that members (not just staff and elders) help make key decisions—whether it’s voting for church leadership, approving the budget, or shaping the future of our ministries. We value having faithful, dedicated members who prayerfully and thoughtfully contribute to these decisions. Together, we’re not just a gathering but a body with a mission, supporting each other and continuing Jesus’ work in our world.
What’s the difference between a member and someone who attends every week?
At Revive, being a member means moving from simply attending to actively investing in the life and mission of our church. While attendees are welcome to join us in worship, connect in groups, and benefit from our ministries, members commit to the deeper responsibilities and privileges of belonging to our church family.
Members don’t just participate; they take ownership by supporting the church’s mission with their time, talents, and resources. They commit to caring for one another, upholding church values, and contributing to decisions that shape our direction, like voting on leadership and financial matters. Membership is a commitment to grow alongside others, serve faithfully, and stand together as one body in Christ.
Why should I become a member?
Revive Church is more than a place to attend. It’s a community of people committed to living and loving like Jesus together, right where we are. Membership matters because you need the body of Christ, the body needs you, and the world needs our witness. Many who call Revive home are already living this out through worship, community, serving, and generosity. Formal membership is simply a clear step of commitment that allows us to care for one another well and move forward together with shared responsibility and accountability.
As a congregationally governed church, members also play an important role in shaping our future. Members participate in key family meetings where we celebrate what God has done, discern where He is leading, and vote on major decisions together. This shared leadership reflects our belief that the church is healthiest when we move forward as one body.
If you’re still exploring faith, there’s no pressure to pursue membership yet. But if you’re a follower of Jesus growing at Revive, membership is an invitation to step in with clarity, commitment, and purpose. If you have questions or want to talk more, we’d love to connect with you. Email info@revivearvada.org to start the conversation.
What is a member covenant?
A covenant is a promise, a commitment we make to God and each other, where we stand by our word regardless of the actions of others (2 Tim. 2:13). Just as a marriage covenant binds a husband and wife in mutual commitment, a covenant at Revive binds us together in faith and shared purpose as a church family.
When we ask members to sign a covenant, it’s not a legal contract or a ritual—it’s a commitment to uphold Revive’s mission and values. It’s our way of affirming that we’re all in this together, accountable to God and one another as we grow in faith and serve our community.
Do members have to be baptized?
Yes, baptism is a foundational step in becoming a member. It’s an outward expression of your personal faith in Jesus and commitment to follow Him. If you haven’t been baptized yet, we’d love to walk with you through that process as part of your journey to membership.
